Julia & Damon ~ Engaged!

It was a dark and stormy Seattle day.

Sounds like the opening to a horror flick, but in all honesty, it’s how Seattle’s weather has been up until about a week or two ago. Julia and Damon are getting married in two months, so we didn’t want to put their engagement shots off any longer, so we just went with the weather. I think the results are moody and contemplative, with a little bit of playfulness thrown in there.

They wanted shots taken with their son, Cedar, since they are a solid family unit. So, this is part family shoot, part engagement shoot, and 100% pure love.

All shots were taken in and around Alki Beach in West Seattle.

As always, I’m posting the highlights from our session. Enjoy!

Lis & Jeff Are Engaged!

I worked with Lis a few years ago and have kept somewhat in touch over the years. She’s a wonderful person and I was excited to hear she’d found a really wonderful guy, Jeff. When she asked me to photograph their upcoming beach wedding, I was thrilled! I can’t hardly wait to capture them tying the knot. As evidenced from these photos, they are very much in love, and he adores her (and likewise).

All photos were shot on a rainy day at the Bellevue Botanical Gardens east of Seattle. What a lovely place, and it was the spot for one of their first dates. Thanks for braving the rain, you two lovebirds!

Lisa Yasmeen.

Here’s another session with the fabulous and talented Lisa Youk-Yasmeen. She’s not only a repeat client, but also a friend, and I just love photographing her. She’s an absolutely natural at modeling and has the most fabulous head-tilt EVER.

I love working with Lisa and am pleased to showcase some new work with her. Here are some of our favorites from the session we did last month! All photos were shot on location on or around Alki Beach in Seattle, and the Seattle Waterfront Marriott Hotel.

Good fun! Thanks for being such a fabulous model, Lisa!

Rebecca & Scott Get Engaged!

One word to describe Rebecca and Scott: silly.

I love this couple and cannot wait to photograph their wedding in April. They are absolutely adorable in every way, and I love how they interact with one another and get silly together. It’s great to have caught some of their “moments” of ridiculousness. :-)

We lucked out with sunshine on a winter afternoon! We started the shoot at the Olympic Sculpture Park in Seattle. While we were at the “Wave” exhibit, we got yelled at over a hidden microphone for touching one of the art pieces. I did manage to get a few shots off before we were kicked off the art. HAH!

After that, we went to the Seattle Public Library downtown, and then to the W Hotel for a few last shots. Good times! Here are some of my favorite highlights of the afternoon.

Congratulations, Rebecca & Scott! Can’t wait for April!

The Brains Behind Bastille.

Shannon Galusha is the man behind Bastille Cafe and Bar in Ballard/Seattle. And what a fantastic place it is. As we were doing headshots of him, for his image stock, I asked him how business was doing in his first six months open. “There’s an hour wait almost every day,” he said. And that’s impressive for Seattle, as you can tell that this place isn’t cheap. This is a place where you go to splurge. And the restaurant isn’t tiny, either. They have a ton of tables. Also, Seattle diners are pretty picky. They don’t revisit a place that’s expensive unless it’s got good food and good atmosphere.

Shannon is delightful and I thoroughly enjoyed talking with him, taking his pictures, and, while waiting, snapping a few shots of the interior.

Rick and I plan to go there in the not-to-distant future!

Samantha.

My beautiful friend, Samantha, cut off all of her gorgeous curly locks and therefore needed some brand-new, updated head shots. Was happy to do them and spend time with her out in the fall weather in the process. Yay for outdoor, autumn shoots!

Here are my favorites.

Fleurs d’Egypte Dance Cabaret!

One of our favorite dance cabarets “Fleurs d’Egypte” needed a photographer this month, and I was happy to oblige! I love photographing them, and admiring the costumes and beauty of these ladies. Beyond the beauty, these ladies are also smart, resourceful, and friendly. A lovely group!

Our shoot started at Seattle’s Century Ballroom which was fabulous for capturing them surrounded by that old-world charm. We then moved across the street to Cal Anderson Park, and then finally finished the shoot a couple of miles away at Volunteer Park. The ladies were fabulous and didn’t complain much as they had to stand outside in the cold while we got the best shots. I had the wonderful Eric Denson assisting me that day!

Here are some highlights from that day!

John’s 18-Month Baby Portraits!

I’ve got one thing to say here: John Jr. is LOVED. That boy has the most amazing family and I am honored to have spend some time in and around their home capturing John Jr. (we call him “Bug”) doing the things he loves to do, with the people who love him the most. Here are some highlights from the session!

Rick & Kirsty’s Engagement Session!

It’s hard to describe the love I have for this particular couple. First of all, Rick has been a great friend of mine for years, and we’ve even collaborated on some projects together. Which is why, when he told me that he was going to marry his long-time girlfriend, Kirsty, I just about jumped out of my chair in response, and demanded that I photograph their wedding. (I am quite demanding sometimes, indeed!)

Kirsty is every bit as wonderful, witty, intelligent, beautiful, and warm as Rick is. They are a perfect match and I’m truly honored to have spent a week in sunny Glasgow (yes! it was sunny as you can tell from these photos!) in order to capture their wedding week.

First off, we took a trip to Pollok House and roamed the surrounding taking the pre-wedding (engagement) shots. (Wedding photos to come in a follow-up blog!)

Here are some of my favorites!

Sneak Preview: Rick & Kirsty

I normally don’t do a lot of “sneak previews” (which is something I should probably change!) but I couldn’t resist this one because we did their engagement session yesterday and their wedding is tomorrow. Since it was an unusually short window, I thought I’d share just a couple of my favorite images from the day.

Since I’m in Scotland currently and don’t have access to my usual means of post-production, I was unable to properly size these images. If you want to view the larger image, please click on the small one.

More to follow in a week or two (both engagement and wedding photos)!
